Information generally recorded by the tracking device is the location, date, time, speed, name/ registration, and direction of travel.  The data sent to the server can also be stored.  In other words any time you need to look at past data regarding a vehicle or the driver you can log on to generate reports based on the data recorded.  There are a number of reports available to you such as mileage, hours worked, idling reports, and more.
