It is said that GPS monitoring will be used to track young offenders using an ankle bracelet in Bucks County. The offenders will not have responded to probation alone but to which offence they have committed does not justify a residential placement.
The commissioners of Bucks County Juvenile Probation Department are said to have approved over a one hundred thousand dollar contract for G4S Justice Services of Atlanta to provide them with a monitoring service utilising the ankle bracelets and telephone system.
This will give Bucks County Juvenile Probation Department the ability to monitor offenders twenty four hours a day which allows them to provide the community with a much tighter supervision of offenders.
The bracelets have an in built satellite based tracking device in them which reports to an internet monitoring program every fifteen minutes. Probation officers will now be able to check out the offenders location at any time and also check that they are not going into forbidden areas or indeed that they are attending schools as they should.
It can also work for the juvenile by proving to others that they are doing what they are meant to be doing.
They are certain that using this method will result in a higher success rate as offenders can continue to stay at home.
